Apostille on a certified translation from the Czech Republic
The short answer is that the translator must additionally have their signature notarized. The apostille is then placed on that notarization.
Detailed explanation:
As of today, there is no direct procedure in the Czech Republic for apostilling certified translations. The established procedure involves the notarization of the translator's signature, which is present on the translation. The apostille is then placed on the notarial act. Therefore, in this case, it is the notarial certification of the translator’s signature that is being apostilled. Regrettably, there is no other alternative.
It is important to note that this apostille procedure is only applicable to a translation prepared by an official translator based in the Czech Republic (these are often referred to as court-sworn translators). If the translation was performed by a translator in another country, the apostille for that translation would need to be procured in that specific country.
We have frequently encountered such requests from our clients regarding the apostille of the translation itself (interestingly, in many cases, this was required for Israel or its embassies, though other countries needed it as well). We have arranged the apostille exactly as described above, and the documents were accepted in all cases.
We also recommend that you check with the institution where you will submit the document to confirm whether an apostille on the translation is actually required. In our experience, most cases call for an apostille on the original document itself, and these are two different procedures. Should you have any questions, please contact us for clarification.
We provide apostille services for any certified translations from the Czech Republic. If needed, we can also prepare the certified translations themselves. For full details, please visit the relevant page on our website via the button below.
