What Is Required to Obtain Documents from a Czech Civil Registry Office?

First and foremost, we need a power of attorney to request any document from a Czech Civil Registry Office. We cannot obtain documents without official authorization, as we are third parties and require formal consent from the individuals named in the civil registry records.

Obtaining a power of attorney is straightforward (it is not difficult to arrange). In every case in which a client has contacted us, we have found a simple solution. How and where the power of attorney should be certified depends on the location of the person signing it. In the vast majority of cases, it can be certified at a Czech consulate or embassy, or by a notary in your area.

We will prepare the specific text of the power of attorney for you and, after clarifying the details, provide you with instructions on how and where to have it certified.

Depending on the type of document, the power of attorney must be signed as follows:

  • Marriage Certificate - must be signed by at least one of the spouses.
  • Birth Certificate - must be signed by at least one parent listed on the certificate or by the person whose birth is recorded in it.
  • Death Certificate - this situation is more complex. Typically, Czech death certificates identify representatives of the deceased or direct heirs. Ideally, the power of attorney should be issued by a person named in the certificate. This is often the surviving spouse or one of the deceased's children. If no individual is clearly listed, a power of attorney from a close relative is required - most commonly from one of the children. In addition, the family relationship will need to be proven with supporting documents, such as a birth certificate. Each case is individual - please contact us, and we will review your situation and find the best solution.

For other documents, please inquire individually.

Once the power of attorney has been notarized, we will need the original in the Czech Republic. Please send the document to us by mail. If necessary, we will arrange for a local translator in the Czech Republic to translate it into Czech.

Frequently Asked Questions About Documents from Czech Civil Registry Offices

Can an Apostille Be Placed on the Obtained Document?

Yes, we can arrange for an apostille to be placed on the document. This is usually done promptly, but please confirm with us whether you require this service.

How Quickly Can I Obtain a Document from a Civil Registry Office?

Obtaining a document is typically quite fast - usually within 1 to 3 business days. However, the main factor is how quickly you can prepare the power of attorney and have it delivered to the Czech Republic.

Can Civil Registry Documents Issued in Czech Be Translated into Another Language?

Yes, absolutely. We can arrange a translation into any other language, specifically an official certified translation. However, it is important to confirm the translation requirements based on where the document will be used.

In most cases, we recommend having the translation completed by a certified translator in the country where the document will be submitted. However, in many cases, having it translated directly in the Czech Republic can also be a valid and convenient solution.
