How to Check the Current Status (Good Standing) of a Czech Company

In short, you can check this directly on our website USING OUR ONLINE COMPANY CHECK TOOL, through our system for checking Czech legal entities, or on the website of the Czech Ministry of Justice https://or.justice.cz/.

However, the Czech Ministry of Justice website does not directly display the status of a legal entity or indicate whether a company is active (also often referred to as "Good Standing"). Our system can determine this status and displays this parameter for every legal entity.

The following information can also help you determine the status of a company:

1. If you can find the legal entity either through our system or on the Czech Ministry of Justice website and there are no additional notices or indications attached to it, the legal entity is active.<
2. If the company's name includes the suffix "v likvidaci", the company is currently in liquidation and is not permitted to conduct business activities.
3. If the company cannot be found either through our system or on the Ministry of Justice website, the company either does not exist or has already been dissolved. Our system can sometimes display information about such companies (although, for technical reasons, not always). On the Ministry of Justice website, you can select the "platné i neplatné" option when searching, meaning that the search will include both active and inactive legal entities. In this case, the system will also search among dissolved legal entities, so if the company previously existed but has since been dissolved, its information will still be displayed.

However, this is only formal information confirming that the company is not in liquidation. Determining whether it is actually operating in practice — whether it has an office or employees, or what its turnover is — is considerably more difficult.

Formally, all companies in Czechia are required to publish their annual financial statements on the Czech Ministry of Justice website in the publicly accessible document archive known as "Sbírka listin" (Collection of Deeds). These documents may provide some indication of the company's actual activity, but many Czech legal entities do not comply with this obligation. Unfortunately, our company checking system cannot verify whether these documents are available. You can check them on the official Czech Ministry of Justice website (the link is provided at the beginning of this article).
