How to legalize Czech documents for use in the UAE?

For Czech documents to be recognized in the United Arab Emirates, the so-called procedure of “consular legalization of documents” is required. Unfortunately, the process is rather complicated and troublesome; it is also sometimes referred to as “superlegalization”.

The fact is that there are no international agreements between the Czech Republic and the UAE that allow for mutual acceptance of documents under a simplified procedure (such as with an apostille, which is far easier, or even without any certification at all). As a result, the so-called consular legalization of documents is required, which is quite complex. For Czech documents, you first need to obtain certifications from Czech state authorities – this is how the Czech side “releases” the document for international recognition. After that, the document must be sent to the UAE and finally certified by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and only then will it be recognized as valid within the UAE. Previously, the final certification was performed by the UAE consulate in Prague, but the consulate was closed at the end of 2022, and documents must now be sent to the UAE for final certification.

The same complex procedure applies equally in the reverse direction.
